ABLETON LIVE 8 MUSIC RECORDING SOFTWARE

At a press conference at the NAMM music show in Anaheim, Calif. on Thursday, Ableton announced the next versions of its Live and Suite products.

Ableton outlined Live 8, the new version of its live sequencing tool that includes a new groove engine, revamped warping techniques, live looping, five new effects (including the Ableton Vocoder), crossfades in the Arrangement View, group tracks and a reworked MIDI editor.

Ableton Suite 8 will include all of the changes in the Live version, but will also come with a sound library and a variety of instruments. The instruments include a wide range of synths, a sampler, electric and acoustic drums, mallets, numerous sampled instruments and a new Operator.

In addition to its new software products, Ableton also detailed some other items during the press conference. Among the initiatives the company is undertaking are the ability to share Live presets over the Web; Max for Live, a new product developed by Ableton and Cycling ’74; and the release of a new Live controller developed by Ableton and Akai.

Ableton said they hope to have Live 8 and Studio 8 out in the second quarter 2009. A public beta of both products will be released "soon."
